This drug has a sedative effect and relaxes the skeletal muscles. It does not act directly on skeletal muscle, but does affect the central nervous system. In case of animals treating, carisoprodol blocks interneuronal activity and inhibits the transmission of polysynaptic neurons to the spinal cord and the reticular formation of the brain.

How does Carisoprodol works?


Carisoprodol suppresses interneuronal impulse transmission in the reticular formation of the spinal cord, though the exact mechanism of action has not yet been established.


The drug is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, reaching a maximum concentration within 90-120 minutes. The muscle relaxant effect is observed within 30 minutes after oral administration, and its duration reaches 6 hours.


The agent is metabolized by the liver by cytochrome P450 oxidase and it’s excreted from the body through the kidneys. The half-life of carisoprodol is about 2 hours, and half-life of its metabolite, meprobamate, is about 10 hours.


How to use Carisoprodol?


Carisoprodol is available in the pills form for oral administration. You can choose the required dosage of the medicine when ordering carisoprodol in our pharmacy.


This drug should be taken in strict accordance with the prescription of the attending physician and the attached instruction. Each pill should be taken with 200 ml. of water.


The maximum daily dose of carisoprodol is 1,400 mg, which corresponds to three-four times of a onetime dose (the last dose should be taken before bedtime). A specific dose and dosage regimen depends on a physical condition and pathology.


Carisoprodol should not be compensated with an additional pill when missing pill taking and not following the schedule. The interval between doses should not exceed 4 hours.


What contraindications Carisoprodol has?
